Trust Dimension 1 — Trust the baseline (the verified IPL-specific mean is the correct reference): Trusting the baseline means accepting that the 3+ season verified IPL-specific mean (Chepauk 44.2 ±2.8) is more reliable than any single match observation, media consensus, or social media commentary about what "Chepauk usually produces." When a Chepauk match produces 52 runs in the powerplay, the correct trust response is not to immediately revise the baseline — 52 is within 1σ of 44.2, a perfectly normal outcome. The baseline is trusted until a statistically significant pattern (3+ consecutive sessions above baseline by more than 1σ) suggests a genuine change in the venue's characteristics. Single-session surprises do not shake a trusted baseline; only sustained directional patterns initiate the review process.
Trust Dimension 2 — Trust the variance (losing runs and winning runs are part of normal operation): A model with 60% accuracy at 15 qualifying bets per season will produce losing seasons — approximately 3–4 losing seasons per decade due to pure variance. Trusting the variance means accepting that a −3 unit season does not prove the model is broken, and a +12 unit season does not prove it is exceptionally calibrated. Both outcomes can occur within the model's expected variance at 60% accuracy with 15 bets. The trust test: does the bettor maintain the same process quality and threshold discipline in a −3 unit season as in a +12 unit season? If yes, the variance is trusted. If the losing season produces checklist abbreviation, threshold drift, or model abandonment, the variance was not trusted — and the model was not trusted.
Trust Dimension 3 — Trust the process (the checklist and threshold produce better decisions than unstructured judgment): Trusting the process means accepting that the 4-step qualifying checklist and the 8% effective threshold produce better qualifying decisions in aggregate than unstructured analytical judgment — even when a specific match produces an outcome that appears to contradict the process. After a checklist-confirmed qualifying bet loses, the temptation is to doubt the checklist: "Maybe the process was wrong this time." Trust the process means recognising that losing is always possible even on correctly identified positive-EV positions, and that a single loss provides no information about the process's correctness. The process is trusted until a statistically meaningful accuracy decline (confirmed across 30+ observations) identifies a specific, correctable model error — not until a single unwanted outcome creates doubt.
Trust Dimension 4 — Trust the timeline (the season, not the individual bet, is the unit of analytical evaluation): The final trust dimension is the timeline: the season is the minimum unit over which the analytical model should be evaluated, not the individual bet or the individual week. A bettor who evaluates the model after every bet (revising expectations after each result, adjusting stakes in response to recent outcomes, abandoning the approach after a 3-bet losing run) is using the wrong timeline. Trust the timeline means committing to the full 74-match season as the evaluation unit — reviewing the model's performance at season's end, not mid-season, not match-by-match. The season's accumulated evidence (qualifying accuracy, process quality scores, model deviation from actual outcomes) is the correct basis for evaluation; individual bet outcomes are too noisy to interpret individually.
